How does Nerd Girl Computer calculate service and repair costs?
Some services and common repairs have fixed or starting costs associated with them. Those are:
Data recovery: starting at $80
Personal website design and creation: starting at $295
Business website design and creation: starting at $395
Website maintenance: $45 an hour
Wipe and reinstall: $99*
Virus cleanup: $99*
All other services are priced by labor hours. A labor hour constitutes how long a technician is actively working on your system. Any time spent scanning is not considered a labor hour. The prices per hour are:
$50 in house
$65 on site in service area
$80 on site outside of service area or not during regular business hours.
While we will try to stick to the quote we give you, sometimes a seemingly run of the mill repair will run into problems. Those cases will require extra labor and therefore an extra cost. We try to let you know of any issues that come up as soon as we learn about them so that you will have the most accurate cost estimate.
If your system requires a part that we do not have in stock, you pay the retail price for any hardware ordered by Nerd Girl. These prices are part and system specific.

What forms of payment does Nerd Girl Computer accept?
We accept cash and check. We don’t keep much change on hand, so if paying in cash, please try to bring as close to exact change as possible. We are working on getting our credit card machine working and will let our customers know when it is up.
How can I determine if I should schedule a service call or bring my system into the shop?
Certain problems are better solved in the shop because they are rather time consuming. One of these is a virus cleanup. While the cost ends up being 2-3 labor hours, the time spent scanning is much greater. If this sort of repair is attempted on site, the customer may end up paying 2 to 3 times as much than if the repair was done in shop. However, a system brought into the shop will be there longer than if the repair is done at home.
Other issues can only be resolved on site. These sorts of issues are networking problems and setups.

How long will my system be in the shop?
This is a tough question to answer as some issues take longer to fix than others and what can at first seem to be a run-of-the-mill procedure can run into problems. However, we have averages for some procedures. The diagnostic can take about one to two business days, after which we will call you and let you know what the problem with your system is and how we propose fixing it. A virus cleanup and a wipe/reinstall can take somewhere between one and a half to two weeks. A cleanup with no virus involved takes an average of one week.
If you need your system done by a certain date, feel free to let us know. If that date requires us to put priority on your system, you will be charged the onsite labor fee.
What is Nerd Girl Computer’s service area?
Our regular service areas are the cities of Shreveport and Bossier City, LA. We may make calls to other cities in Bossier and Caddo parishes, such as Haughton, Benton or Elm Grove, but these areas are subject to an increased hourly charge. We will let you know whether or not we service your area when you schedule your on-site appointment.
